Reading/Writing Level 1 is designed to accommodate freshmen with limited basic skill. The Level 1 text book has a very integrated approach with several elements of reading, writing, listening and speaking embedded in the curricular design of the textbook. The differentiation of assessment is also evident in the text book and the classroom. Short answer, multiple choice, cloze questions, matching, basic paragraph design are a few of the assessments for determining the students’ comprehension level. The readings are more practical and social in nature with an evolvement to some more accessible academic readings as the course timeline evolves.

Listening is delivered through an online program and is monitored throughout the procedure and it aligns in concert with the curricular materials of the Speaking course. Ucampus is the program of listening that students must attend to on their own time and initiative. Listening excerpts from the curricular resource as well as CET 4 and CET 6 are utilized to comprise a listening test administered twice a year at the end of 1st Semester and the end of 2nd Semester. The integrated approach maximizes the benefit of the curricular resources used in the classroom instruction in providing a worldly view.
