Communications Stage 1 for L1, L2 and L3 students is for entry level English and it is paced accordingly. Reading/Vocabulary and Speaking/Listening also with first elements of writing are focused on for establishing a firm basis of English for the future. Vocabulary and pronunciation are stressed to build the English War Chest. Students address their listening on their own time. The listening assessment is administered at the end of the semesters.
Communications Stage 2 for L1, L2 and L3 is appropriately levelled to challenge learning English with attention to attending to the gaps in the students’ comprehensive skills in the language as they may have previously learned. Reading/Writing and Speaking/Listening make up the basis of the two complementary 90-minute classes per week. Cultural interface is also presented with an integrated approach studying an effective course book in tandem with an online listening program. The onus is on the students to complete at a high standard in the online listening component.
Communications Stage 3 for L3 is mentored with Foreign English speakers who demonstrate more western approaches to learning. Students are expected to make presentations by various methods utilizing their English speaking and critical thinking skills. Exposure to cultural differences is explored and highlighted to grow a more global perspective in the student.
